Refunds & Cancellations
Habitat itself is free. Most payments in Habitat go to your society, so most refunds follow your society’s decision; this page explains how each one works.

1. Habitat’s own service
Habitat charges societies and residents nothing: no subscription, setup or per-flat fee. There is nothing to cancel or refund for using Habitat itself. A society can stop using Habitat at any time.
2. Maintenance and other society dues
- These payments go to your society. Whether a charge is reduced, reversed or refunded is decided by the society’s committee or accountant.
- If you pay more than you owe, the extra is kept as credit on your flat’s account and used automatically against your next bills. You can ask the society to pay the credit back to you instead.
- Corrections to a bill are made with a credit note, which shows in your flat’s statement in the app.
3. Failed and duplicate payments
- Money debited but the payment failed: it is reversed to your account by your bank or the payment partner, usually within 5–7 working days. If it has not come back after that, write to us with the payment reference and we will follow it up.
- Paid twice for the same bill: the second payment becomes credit on your flat, or, if you ask, is refunded to the original payment method.
4. Amenity bookings
- Each amenity has a cancellation policy set by your society, shown before you book: for example, free cancellation up to a number of hours before, and a stated share of the charge back after that.
- When you cancel, any unpaid part of the booking is written off, and money you already paid comes back as credit on your flat’s account.
- The society may cancel a booking (for example for maintenance or a closure) and decides how much of the charge is returned.
- Refundable deposits always come back in full if the booking is cancelled. After the booking, the society returns the deposit, or keeps part of it for damage with a written reason shown to you.
5. Service partner listing fees
Professionals listed in the Services tab pay Habitat a one-time onboarding fee and a yearly renewal fee, shown before payment.
- If an application is not approved, the fee is refunded in full.
- Once a listing is live, fees are not refundable, except for charges made in error or twice.
- A partner can stop renewing at any time; the listing then ends at the end of the paid year.
6. Gate device deposit
The refundable security deposit for a Habitat gate device is returned when the device is handed back in working condition, less the cost of any damage beyond normal wear.
7. How refunds reach you
- Credit on your flat: applied immediately and visible in the app.
- To your original payment method (UPI, card, net banking): initiated within 7 working days of approval, then usually 5–10 working days to show in your account, depending on your bank.
- Paid by the society directly (cash, cheque or bank transfer): as arranged with your society, and recorded in your flat’s statement.
8. How to ask
For society dues and bookings, raise it with your society’s office or through the app’s helpdesk. For failed or duplicate payments, listing fees, or anything else, write to[email protected] with the payment reference. We reply within one working day.
